CNN provides a link to video of "corpse recoveries" - WHY?
Most of the news reports about the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina are informative and professional. However, I have to wonder why CNN would think it's important to include a link to see a video of "corpse recoveries"

Hurricane Katrina
My heart goes out to all the victims of Hurricane Katrina. The situation now appears to be getting much worse, as reported on CNN: Water still rising in New Orleans; death toll at least 120.

Estimated 80 percent of New Orleans under water, up to 20 feet deep in places. And the water is still rising.

Electricity was out for more than 2.3 million people in Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama and Florida.

The U.S. Navy was dispatching ships to the area, including the USNS Comfort, a floating hospital based in Baltimore, and an amphibious ready group led by the amphibious assault ship USS Iwo Jima.

Hurricane Katrina may be the cause of the greatest national disaster in modern US history.

Here's a website, Network for Good, listing all the organizations to help victims of Hurricane Katrina.

10-year-old girl saved by new high-tech underwater cameras
A young girl has been saved from drowning in a swimming pool by new high-tech underwater safety cameras and dramatic footage of the rescue was released today.
. The Times

When the 10-year-old girl silently fell to the bottom of the deep end of the Bangor Swimming Pool, North Wales, the Poseidon safety system alerted the lifeguards within 10 seconds and the girl was rescued immediately.

The dramatic rescue can be watched via the link at the beginning of The Times article.

Virtual Noah's Ark
I've just found a wonderful site called, ARKive that "is the Noah's Ark for the Internet era - a unique global initiative, gathering together into one centralised digital library, films, photographs and audio recordings of the world’s species."

I urge you to take a look at "a lasting audio-visual record of life on Earth" and bookmark the site.

Celebration
Mood:  special
We (that is myself plus my husband and our two sons) went out tonight to celebrate our oldest son's GCSE results. We ate at our favourite restaurant -TGI Friday's . We love the food (yes - American!) and the atmosphere even though it does get just a tad noisy!

It's obvious that the employees enjoy working there so I was interested to read on their website that TGI Friday's placed in the Sunday Times Top 100 Companies (52nd place) and in 2004 it placed 15th in the Best UK Place to Work and Most Fun (4th Place) by the Financial Times.

We had a wonderful evening. Smiles all around. It's nice to savour moments like these.
